Let's create the future together
At Volvo Cars, we’re on a mission to make people’s lives less complicated. We design our services around people, and we innovate to provide mobility that is personal, sustainable and safe. Do you want to join us?

Why now?
Volvo Cars is on an ambitious journey to redefine what it means to own a vehicle during a time of rapid change in the transport industry. Volvo Cars is looking to redefine all aspects of the car ecosystem including mobility solutions, autonomous driving, vehicle electrification, sustainability, and digital purchases and engagement. User Experience as a discipline is a key part of Volvo Cars' strategy. The maturing User Experience organisation, which celebrated its two-year anniversary in April 2022, gathers insights about our users and redefines and elevates their experience of Volvo's products and services.
We are seeking a Senior Visual UX Designer to expand our Content & Services team, a team whose goal is to understand our user and partner needs to ideate, design, and deliver beautiful, on-brand, and forward-looking automotive interfaces that connect the vehicle to the rest of their digital ecosystem. Through your work you will improve the experience of the people that interact with our vehicles, helping us deliver a safe, sustainable, and personal experience.
What you will do
As a Senior Visual UX Designer in the Content & Services team, you will work on defining and building a safe and effortless experience for our users, to make the car their own by helping them integrate their content and services directly into the vehicle’s infotainment system.
Our vision is that your content and applications belong to you and should not be trapped in any one single device but follow you anywhere you go. Your responsibilities will include identifying problems to be solved, mapping out desirable and feasible solutions for our users through, for example, utilizing user journeys and prototyping that balance design aesthetics with intuitive functionality.
You will collaborate with other designers and ensure a seamless customer experience across Volvo’s digital landscape. And as part of a product team, you will communicate designs, ideas, and rationale with your team using data and customer insights.
As a designer you advocate for the user and develop a deep understanding of our customer needs and pain-points, serving as an expert for your product team and develop ideas for new and enhanced features.
Your focus will be in developing technically informed and people focused hypotheses and designs on how to humanize the way to present driver centric information to our users. You have strong visual design skills and a track record that demonstrates how you create and build on top of existing design systems.
The design challenges you will jump into will focus on how to most adequately visualize and communicate different states of vehicle functionality and do it in a way that connects with the larger platform system. Your bread and butter will be to understand and untangle complex technical functionalities and requirements and structure them in a clear and glanceable way to our users.

Location
Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg.

What you’ll do

In our car plant we are offering engineering students positions where you get to work in our new Aluminum foundry, the Paint shop, or Battery Assembly.

In the Aluminum foundry students will, amongst other tasks, get to develop and implement technical regulations with product demands that work in the foundry process. The internship involves handling and visualizing large amounts of data in a structured way; therefore, it is key to have experience from quality assurance.

At our Paint shop, we have a lot of technical equipment, including ovens and robots, which impacts our environment. Students map the current state for the Paint shop and develop tools for increasing the shop's sustainability work. One example could be to take part in shaping the shops' sustainability roadmap.

Battery Assembly is developing the next generation automotive batteries and students will contribute to the sustainability development of the assembly process.

For some positions, students will get to analyze and optimize the operational performance of the machines used in the manufacturing of battery packs. The goal is to increase the energy efficiency of the machines, reduce downtime, and improve the overall production capacity.
More details on the project that you will be working on as well as the team which you will join will be presented at a possible interview with the potential manager/mentor.
