Position description
Are you passionate about materials, colours and surface quality? How to make hard requirements possible while giving the customer a strong first impression through nice-looking high-quality surfaces? The Volvo GTT, CAB Living team, is looking for a new employee in our Surface Material team. Here you will work with all the visible surfaces of our Trucks. You will also have the chance to support our colleagues at VCE, Volvo Penta and Volvo Buses. If you have an interest in the technical aspect of surfaces and surface materials this might be the perfect position for you!

Your future team 

The Volvo GTT Surface Material team is a small group of five people within the Living team at Volvo GTT Cab Interior section. We are responsible for surface materials, including textiles, foils, nonwovens, and other materials, as well as surfaces such as plastic colors and grains, deco surfaces in paint, and other technologies. Our work are within, both the interior and exterior surfaces of trucks, collaborating closely with the Product Design team. We also work with other teams within Volvo for interior, exterior, electronics, and chassis parts. The team is also responsible for the curtain system and seat upholsteries. Surface material team not only work with Volvo Trucks but also support other Volvo branded products like excavators, wheel loaders, buses, and boat engines. The team has a strong and supportive spirit, helping each other to overcome obstacles. We work in an international environment with teams in India, France, and the USA. Our mission is to ensure that the surface materials and surfaces used in Volvo products are of the highest quality, focusing on user well-being, customer profitability, sustainability, and creating value for the Volvo Group.


What you will do

As a Surface Material Engineer, you will lead the development of surface materials such as textiles, foils, nonwovens or leathers, ensuring Quality, Delivery, Cost, Features, and Sustainability (QDCFs) standards are met. The job will also involve developing new colours and grains in plastics and other materials as well as deco materials such as paints and deco foils. You will develop the materials in collaboration with highly skilled suppliers and a supportive GTT team, in a deeply integrated collaboration with Product Design. Your main responsibilities will include:
•    Setting requirements and evaluating supplier work.
•    Managing the project timeline, changes, and cost evolution.
•    Acting as the primary technical contact for suppliers and leading their technical development efforts.
•    Communicating progress to various internal stakeholders, including lead engineers on several teams, product design, and purchasing.
•    Evaluating samples, including color and grain measurements.



Who you are
You are on your way to build a strong background in developing surface materials, and you have worked with different materials and technologies over the years. You have experience in setting requirements for surface materials and have led designs with multiple interfaces and stakeholders. You are confident in your knowledge, pragmatic in finding solutions, and understand how to balancing various demands. You have a documented proof of color vision and confidence in judging color, gloss, and surface finishes. You know how to transferring what you see into words, explaining what needs to change and how, to meet the requirements. Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders is second nature to you. You can maintain focus on objectives even under pressure, and you excel at explaining recommendations clearly. As a team player, you understand the importance of a committed timeline and your role in ensuring success.

Experience we seek:
• M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in textile engineering, technical design or equivalent knowledge and around 5 years of experience in product development within the automotive industry.
• Experience in leading Supplier Involvement Product Development (SIPD) of surface material development.
• Experience working in a global environment with multiple sites
• Good knowledge in the development and requirement setting of textiles, foils, decor, and/or polymer materials regarding color, gloss, and graining.
• Proficiency in communication and presentation techniques and proficiency of requirement documentation
• Understanding of legal requirements and how it would affect us.
• KOLA and MS Project is preferred.
• Proficiency in English,Swedish as a plus.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and global team management.

Responsibilities
Participate in the migration of system test lab equipment from Germany to a new environment in Lindholmen
Troubleshoot hardware and network connections.
Install and configure equipment to meet project requirements.
Work remotely with the system testing team in Germany to ensure their needs and instructions are met. This means being their “extended arm” during testing activities that require high-touch operations in the lab.

Qualifications

Conduct 1D system simulations to verify and optimize thermal efficiency, focusing on cooling, climate, and battery systems.
Collaborate with the Attribute Thermal Efficiency team and other system teams to plan and align simulation activities.

Position Description

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing global non-road and marine emissions regulations for the Volvo Penta portfolio.
The “Regulatory Works” team within Emission Compliance department consists of two Regulatory Affairs Managers, who focus on lawmaking and lobbying activities for marine and industrial emission regulations, and two Regulation Engineers, who ensure compliance by integrating published regulations into Volvo Penta projects.
The department also includes dedicated teams for certification, post-certification, and regulatory works, along with country managers. This highly skilled team is spread across Sweden, U.S., China, and South Korea.
Given the importance of collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, strong networking and communication skills are essential for success in this position.
You will report to the Director of Emission Compliance.

Who are you?

Proven experience in regulatory affairs, lawmaking, or a related field, preferably with a focus on emission regulations. Deep knowledge and strong interest in regulations, their terminology, and the ability to coach and train internal teams. Experience collaborating with authorities, ensuring compliance and influencing regulatory discussions. High integrity mindset, with a commitment to ethical and transparent decision-making.



Qualifications

•    Master’s degree (MSc) or preferably a PhD in Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), ATS or a related technical field.
•    Structured and detail-oriented approach to work, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
•    Fluent in English (additional language skills are a plus).
•    Excellent communication skills, both written (reports, documentation) and verbal (presentations, discussions).

At Testing Technology, you will contribute to product development projects with equipment, solutions and support to provide data to make our vehicles even better. You will be responsible for equipment and systems, and planning based on project needs. You will coordinate with test engineers, project managers and other stakeholders to make sure we have the right equipment and the right setup in test vehicles according to the time plan and make sure that the right data is available for the engineers and analysts. You will also contribute to long term plans when defining road maps and investigation future tools and systems. This role will require both technical depth and breadth since you will not only work with the measurement technology but also the larger eco system of the complete vehicle and the backend systems.

Who are you?

In this position you will be working very hands on with the HW equipment and trucks and take a lot of responsibility for our collaborations with other departments as well as suppliers.
Some of these experiences could be part of your background:  
•    BSc or MSc in electrical engineering/mechatronics or other relevant educational background
•    Experience with data logging equipment and related backend systems
•    Experience from one or more of these areas: electronics, vehicle diagnostics, CAN/LIN/Ethernet communication, electrical architecture or vehicle verification

Some of the skills required in this position are:

•    Strong planning, prioritization and communication skills 
•    Good collaborations skills, both within the team and with other departments
•    Ability to think ahead, and understand future needs both short and long term
•    A C-level driver’s license would be a great bonus!
