Lead Design Engineer – Floating Wind Turbine

Lead Design Engineer – Floating Wind Turbine Systems

Location: Gothenburg, Sweden

Type: Project-based (18 months with potential extension)

Experience: 10+ years

Shape, Design and Lead the Future of Offshore Energy

At SeaTwirl, we’re developing the next generation of floating vertical-axis wind turbines – designed specifically for deep waters where traditional turbines can’t go. With a patented design, an integrated spar structure, and an unwavering focus on simplicity, robustness and maintainability, our mission is to reshape offshore wind technology.

Backed by EU-funded innovation projects, we are now scaling our internal capabilities to develop and manufacture key subsystems in-house. That means we're building more than turbines – we’re building a team that can take full technical ownership of what will become a crucial part of tomorrow’s energy infrastructure.

Right now, we’re looking for a Lead Design Engineer to take the lead in this transformation.

About SeaTwirl

SeaTwirl AB is a Swedish energy-tech company within offshore wind power with the purpose to enable floating offshore wind - wherever it is needed. SeaTwirl's unique floating vertical-axis wind turbine has a low center of gravity, a slim substructure, and a generator house accessible at the sea surface enabling small, cost efficient, and locally available vessels to maintain it. The company is listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market since 2016.

Join Us to Shape the Future of Floating Wind

You’ll work at the heart of a multidisciplinary team and be responsible for designing complete systems and components across structural, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic domains. From generator housing to mooring – you’ll drive the technical development of key subsystems and ensure they work together as one.

What You’ll Do:

·   Work on mechanical and system design of complete floating wind turbine components – from early concept to production-ready solutions

·   Own the design process: 3D modeling, detailed drawings, BOMs, tolerance analysis, system integration, and design reviews

·   Design large steel structures for offshore applications, including floaters, towers, frames, and support systems

·   Design machined parts, with demand on tolerances, and corrosion-resistant materials suitable for marine environments where applicable.

·   Integrate and interface with electrical systems, hydraulics, drivetrains, and control systems

·   Ensure functional performance, safety, reliability, and manufacturability in offshore conditions

·   Collaborate closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners.

·   Work closely with the team consisting of structural engineers, electrical engineers, hydrodynamic analysts etc.

·   Take a systems engineering approach to ensure all subsystems fit and function together

·   Focus areas are for example drive train, brake system, cooling system, joining interface (bolts/welds) and manufacturing selection.

Who You Are:

·   A highly experienced and proactive engineer who thrives on designing complex, real-world systems – not just parts

·   Capable of working independently, making decisions, and pushing designs forward in a fast-paced R&D environment

·   Motivated by the challenge of building something that has never been built before – and doing it right

Core strengths for this role:

·   Understanding how different parts of the system interact, such as how electrical components integrate with mechanical structures or how hydraulic systems affect structural loads.

·   Collaborating with specialists across disciplines (e.g., electrical engineers, software developers, structural analysts) to define requirements and resolve design conflicts.

·   Making trade-offs and design decisions that consider the full system – not just an isolated component.

·   Managing interfaces between components and subsystems to ensure compatibility and performance.

·   Ensuring system-level performance, safety, reliability, and maintainability.

What You Bring:

·   Around 10 years of experience in mechanical or product design, preferably in offshore, energy, marine, or similar industries

·   Master of Science in relevant area (for example: mechanical engineering, power electric engineering, naval architecture or construction).

·   Ability to work independently.

·   English proficiency is mandatory both written and spoken.

·   Yard or/and manufacturing experience.

·   Working experience within a relevant field.

Valued experience:

·   Knowledge of industry standards: ABS, DNV, IEC, ISO, ASTM, etc

·   Machining and tolerance-critical parts

·   Electrical and hydraulic system integration

·   Cross-functional system engineering

·   Large welded steel structures

·   Excellent 3D CAD skills (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent)

·   Strong understanding of mechanical standards, tolerancing (GD&T), and DFM principles

·   Comfortable working with technical specifications, test plans, and production ramp-up

·   Experience with offshore

Why Work With Us?

You’ll help shape the future of renewable energy by designing innovative, robust systems that will operate in some of the world’s harshest environments. We’re not just designing parts – we’re designing a new path for renewable energy.

 At SeaTwirl, you’ll:

Help bring a new technology from drawing board to open ocean

Have real ownership and responsibility

Work in a cross-disciplinary, high-ambition team

Be part of something with purpose: accelerating the green transition!

Welcome to submit your application! We will review applications and invite candidates for interviews on an ongoing basis.
