Position Summary
We are looking for a full-time engineer, but with an initial matching period. For a person with the right background and skills we would be pleased to offer our partnership program.
Major Responsibilities
You will be involved in developing a demonstration-scale recycling process for semiconductor material derived from manufacturing waste. Your responsibilities will include mechanical treatment, chemical processing and purification, hands-on testing of various parameters, redesigning process components for upgrades, and characterizing materials. Additionally, you will conduct theoretical investigations and may contribute to research on final product preparation, as well as coordinating R&D projects.
Qualifications
You have a bachelor, MSc or PhD degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy, and/or Material Science subjects. Your ability to combine creativity and research experience with a focus on applications to generate industry-ready solutions leading to commercialization is a strong advantage. The candidate should be self-propelled and ready to work in a flexible working environment. We are therefore looking for a team player who is comfortable in taking responsibility for complete projects. The position of course requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English.

In OPD, a division of Pharmaceutical Technology & Development , we focus on the design and development of commercial products and processes and contribute to new product introductions and continuous improvement of launched products. Products in scope are, e.g., immediate and controlled release oral solid dosage forms of small molecules for diverse therapeutic areas. To meet the future needs of our portfolio the introduction of new technology and science is an important factor, and the use of modelling and simulation tools is a part of our daily work.


What you'll do

We are looking for a laboratory-based senior scientist that can balance formulation development and process engineering with a passion for application of digital tools. In this role, you will work closely with a team of colleagues in a multi-skilled environment to design, develop and deliver high quality clinical and commercial formulations and processes. You will be part of cross-functional teams delivering drug projects, including contributions to regulatory documentation and submissions. You will also take part in process development and technology transfer of manufacturing methods to other sites and give consultation to internal and external parties. You will be a key player in driving the digital transformation within OPD. You will also be accountable for:



* Work hands-on to generate data as well as work collaboratively with other experimentalists with different backgrounds to identify/use/drive digital applications to strategically direct experimentation.

* Manage your own work to achieve drug development and improvement project targets, in a timely fashion and to agreed quality standards, by applying technical knowledge and expertise as well as interpreting results and adapting investigations as appropriate.
* Participate in scientific and/or technology networks to increase base-line knowledge and create awareness of new developments in relevant areas.
* Contribute to implementation of new technologies for development and manufacturing of oral solid dosage forms.

Essential for the role

* Highly likely to be a PhD or an experienced MSc in chemical engineering, pharmacy or similar discipline.
* A rational approach to problem solving, and an ability to make judgements based on sound reasoning.
* Proven ability to plan, execute and document laboratory work with processing equipment.
* Ability to proactively apply modelling and simulation to deliver value in development and manufacturing.
* Ability to collaborate with experts in complementary areas (e.g., biopharmacutics, analytical and material sciences), in a multicultural environment.
* Operates confidently and collaboratively within a global organisation, with an integrating mind-set.
* Strong communication skills in English and stakeholder management skills

Desirable for the role

* Experience of pharmaceutical products and process equipment and technology, including product design and methods for experimental characterization and a track record of using multi-variate analysis and chemometrics.
* Having a knowledge of operational requirements including GMP, Process Safety, Data integrity and Change Control.
* Experience of continuous processing in a pharmaceutical environment.
* Experience of applying modelling and simulation tools

What You’ll Do
Your work will focus on understanding the fundamentals of electrolyte additives and how they influence the performance of automotive batteries. You will lead planning and execution of experiments, validation of analytical methods, and analyze data to assess which new materials, deployed together, will enable Novo Energy to meet performance requirements for next-generation Volvo Cars.

- Design and evaluate new and already commercialized electrolyte additives to match the requirements from Volvo's vehicle specifications.
- Plan and execute experiments in collaboration with Engineering team. Based on sound statistical methods, plan and deliver efficient experimental campaigns that provide actionable information about battery electrolytes.
- Discover causative relationships. Connect material-level properties to product-level battery performance specs. Figure out methods of predicting cell performance based on analytics at electrolyte level.
- Once validated, work closely with cell designers to scale new materials into full-size cell designs. Iterate.
- Stay on top of the newest technology and methods out in the world. Use your judgment to make the case for which technologies are aligned with the company’s goals and worth investigating further.
- Communicate complex chemistry and materials science concepts clearly to non-expert audiences. Make your planning and technical thought process visible and understandable to the people around you, from managers to technicians.

About the role

IVL manages the research programme Mistra SafeChem, where method development for chemical footprints (herein: LCA with strong focus on human toxicity and ecotoxicity) is one of the research tasks in an LCA oriented work package. The aim is to use LCA as a tool to monitor and reduce the exposure from hazardous chemicals. The specific objectives of the work package are:

• To further advance a life cycle based chemicals assessment toolbox developed during 2020-2024, and increase its utility to industry.

• To strengthen the link with the machine learning world to increase chemical space coverage.

• To increase focus on life cycle inventory (LCI) relevant for chemical footprints and by that reduce associated uncertainty.

• Develop prospective LCA methods applicable to a (re)design context with an aim to reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals.

This early career research position is intended as a task lead and main researcher for the programme activities on the further advancement of methods for assessing the toxicological potentials of product systems. This research is integrated in that of the wider work package activities.
Qualifications

To succeed in the role you have:

a recent PhD in life cycle assessment, chemistry, chemical engineering, toxicology, ecotoxicology, or equally relevant fields

documented training and/or experience in LCA and its application

a true interest in working cross disciplines

full proficiency in oral and written English, Swedish is a merit
