Project description
You will be working in a researchgroup that adressen the NO2 gas sensing charectteristics of advanced MOS2-based chemiresistive sensors. You will be using  state-of-the-art clean room and material analasys laboratory to perform the tasks. 

We will study nanopatterned MOS2 material with enriched zigzag edge content for advanced NO2 gas sensing. The method of nanopatterning MoS2 has been recently discovered by our group. Using our unique material, we will boost the gas sesning characteristics, benchmark them against the state-of-the-art and find ways to verify reporoducibility and scalability of manufacturing.

You will study gas sensing performance of MoS2-based chemiresistive sensors with a particular emphasis on device optimization, reproducibility, and scalability. Device optimization will include crrelation between gas sesning characteristics and morphological madifications of MoS2 material, including nanopatterning and doping. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

Information about the division and the department
The Physics department has a very broad and interdisciplinary profile including activities driven by fundamental questions and curiosity as well as by societal needs and development. The position is placed at the Division of Nano and biophysics, in the Timur Shegai Group, with focus on NO2 gas sensing investigations of nanostructured 2D materials, specifically MoS2 with zigzag edge-enriched content.

The interdisciplinary activities at the Physics department is manifested in its active involvement in many of Chalmers’ Areas of Advance, Excellence initiatives and Centers for industrial collaborations, in which cross-departmental activities in the fields of for example energy, nano, materials and life science are organized to bring together education, research and innovation, with the aim to successfully meet the needs of society and contribute to a sustainable future. Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility is to pursue the goals of your research project. You are also expected to develop own ideas and find your own ways in tackling research and development challenges. The position may also include some level of interactions with both industrial and academic project partners.

Qualifications
To qualify as a postdoc, you must hold a PhD degree in physics and have a strong interest in 2D materials and gas sensing. You should already have some skills in 2D material manufacturing, as well as gas sesning using such materials. Finally, you should enjoy working in a collaborative environment including interactions with both theoreticians and experimentalists, as well as industrial partners.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.

Postdoc position on Ultra-low-noise HEMT amplifiers

Terahertz and Millimetre Wave Lab at Chalmers University of Technology explores electronics for very low noise and very high frequencies. During academic year 24/25, we have an open position for a postdoctoral fellow for exploring HEMT technologies in ultra low-noise amplifiers. The applications are found in quantum computing and mm-wave instrumentation.

In recent years, we have advanced state of the art for the InGaAs HEMT transistor and the low-noise amplifier both with respect to noise and dc power dissipation. We are fabricating own devices in a state-of-the-art HEMT process and have advanced characterization labs. Together with our industrial partner, a full MMIC process and cryogenic industrial testing are available.

Project description
The postdoc position is focused on experimental work in advancing low-noise InGaAs HEMTs for cryogenic applications 1-100 GHz. Depending on the background of the applicant, the research can be focused on device physics and engineering or the full HEMT LNA.  We have international collaborations with US and South Korea and participates in the EU Chips JU project Move2THz for exploring InP HEMTs on silicon bulk.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
Applicants should have (or planning) a Ph.D. degree in (compound) semiconductor electronic devices and/or microwave engineering. The position can be started during academic year 24/25 and is a full-time employment.

PhD student position in AI/ML for Intelligent Optical Network Management

Optical networks are the backbone of today’s communication infrastructure. With the introduction of 6G, they are expected to become more flexible, agile, and efficient, providing ever-increasing capacity and reliability. Combined, these properties are challenging to achieve. Provisioning and monitoring optical channels require careful margin management, monitoring for soft failures, and advanced techniques to anticipate disruptions. Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) are promising techniques that may provide substantial contributions to addressing these challenges.

Project description
This PhD project aims to harness the latest advances in AI/ML to address relevant challenges in optical network design and operation. The research must address different technological readiness levels, ranging from simulation to the development and integration of proof-of-concept demonstrations.

The work will be carried out in collaboration with Telia AB, the largest network operator in the Nordics. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on applying cutting-edge AI/ML techniques to the following optical networking problems: optical network design, network flexibility and reliability, advanced monitoring, and failure management.
The candidate will also be able to interact with our national and international network of collaborators from academia and industry.

Information about the division and the unit
The Communications, Antennas, and Optical Networks (CAOS) division conducts advanced research on various aspects of communication infrastructure.

The Optical Networks (ON) group focuses on research in areas such as network automation, control and management, fiber access and mobile transport networks, network sustainability, reliability, security, and survivability, and converged fiber-wireless networks.

Major responsibilities
- Independently formulate research questions and develop strategies to solve them, within the scope of your project.

PhD position in New Materials Concepts for Stable Organic Solar Cells

A PhD student position is available in the research group of Christian Müller at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Chalmers University of Technology. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student who will develop new material concepts for organic solar cells. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council. You will work closely with several PhD students and postdocs at Chalmers as well as other universities in Sweden and abroad. There will be the opportunity to travel to attend conferences and to visit labs at other universities.

Information about the research group and the project
The Müller Research Group focuses on the physical chemistry and materials science of organic semiconductors, polymer blends and composites, and develops new plastic materials for wearable electronics and energy technologies ranging from organic solar cells and thermoelectrics to power cables. All research is conducted in co-operation with other universities/institutes and/or industry. Presently, the group consists of 1 Professor, 1 senior scientist, 3 Postdocs and 9 PhD students.

The development of new acceptor materials for organic solar cells has led to a steady increase in device efficiencies, reaching more than 17% today. A remaining challenge is the relatively poor long-term stability of organic solar cells. The goal of your research will be to understand how the use of mixtures of acceptor molecules influences and improves the stability of organic solar cells. Major responsibilities
The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research, in collaboration with students and postdocs at Chalmers as well as other universities in Sweden and abroad. As a PhD student you are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in writing. In addition, 10 percent of your time will be dedicated to departmental duties, especially teaching on the undergraduate level.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent with a focus on physical chemistry (or be in the process of completing a Master’s degree). Experience with organic electronics is required and experience with organic solar cells is a merit. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills.

A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of 4 years of fulltime research studies. The monthly salary of a PhD student at Chalmers is about 32'000 SEK before tax (approx. 2'900 €).

The Department of Technology Management and Economics (TME) conducts research about the interaction between technology development, industrial systems, society, people and the environment. The department is organized in five divisions for research and teaching. Your major responsibility is to pursue doctoral studies in relation to a specific research aim. As a PhD student you take an active role in the research project in preparing for and collecting empirical data, conducting analysis and presenting results. During the project, results will continuously be presented at seminars and on international conferences. Position summary
The position is a full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to five years (1+2+2). You will spend approximately 80% of this time on research. Postdoc position on Ultra-low-noise HEMT amplifiers

Terahertz and Millimetre Wave Lab at Chalmers University of Technology explores electronics for very low noise and very high frequencies. During academic year 24/25, we have an open position for a postdoctoral fellow for exploring HEMT technologies in ultra low-noise amplifiers. The applications are found in quantum computing and mm-wave instrumentation.

In recent years, we have advanced state of the art for the InGaAs HEMT transistor and the low-noise amplifier both with respect to noise and dc power dissipation. We are fabricating own devices in a state-of-the-art HEMT process and have advanced characterization labs. Together with our industrial partner, a full MMIC process and cryogenic industrial testing are available.

Project description
The postdoc position is focused on experimental work in advancing low-noise InGaAs HEMTs for cryogenic applications 1-100 GHz. Depending on the background of the applicant, the research can be focused on device physics and engineering or the full HEMT LNA.  We have international collaborations with US and South Korea and participates in the EU Chips JU project Move2THz for exploring InP HEMTs on silicon bulk.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
Applicants should have (or planning) a Ph.D. degree in (compound) semiconductor electronic devices and/or microwave engineering. The position can be started during academic year 24/25 and is a full-time employment.

Project description
Possible GNSS-related research topics can include, e.g., reference frames, crustal motion, glacial isostatic adjustment, atmospheric signal delays, ionospheric research, LEO-augmented GNSS, new space missions, etc. The Postdoc position is in the research group for Space Geodesy and Geodynamics. Project description
The role primarily involves developing control and orchestration methods for confluent networking. In summary, the main goals are to improve capacity, energy efficiency, and latency by implementing advanced control of new physical layer solutions as part of the ECO-eNET project. This will involve efficient provisioning using both existing and new controllers for wired, wireless, and computing systems, as well as an AI-enabled orchestration layer. AI-driven service and network orchestration will use network sensing technology to gather environmental data, support applications, and optimize networks. PhD student position in AI/ML for Intelligent Optical Network Management

Optical networks are the backbone of today’s communication infrastructure. With the introduction of 6G, they are expected to become more flexible, agile, and efficient, providing ever-increasing capacity and reliability. Combined, these properties are challenging to achieve. Provisioning and monitoring optical channels require careful margin management, monitoring for soft failures, and advanced techniques to anticipate disruptions. Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) are promising techniques that may provide substantial contributions to addressing these challenges.

Project description
This PhD project aims to harness the latest advances in AI/ML to address relevant challenges in optical network design and operation. The research must address different technological readiness levels, ranging from simulation to the development and integration of proof-of-concept demonstrations.

The work will be carried out in collaboration with Telia AB, the largest network operator in the Nordics. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on applying cutting-edge AI/ML techniques to the following optical networking problems: optical network design, network flexibility and reliability, advanced monitoring, and failure management.
The candidate will also be able to interact with our national and international network of collaborators from academia and industry.

The Communications, Antennas, and Optical Networks (CAOS) division conducts advanced research on various aspects of communication infrastructure.

PhD position in New Materials Concepts for Stable Organic Solar Cells

A PhD student position is available in the research group of Christian Müller at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Chalmers University of Technology. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student who will develop new material concepts for organic solar cells. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council. You will work closely with several PhD students and postdocs at Chalmers as well as other universities in Sweden and abroad. There will be the opportunity to travel to attend conferences and to visit labs at other universities.

Information about the research group and the project
The Müller Research Group focuses on the physical chemistry and materials science of organic semiconductors, polymer blends and composites, and develops new plastic materials for wearable electronics and energy technologies ranging from organic solar cells and thermoelectrics to power cables. All research is conducted in co-operation with other universities/institutes and/or industry. Presently, the group consists of 1 Professor, 1 senior scientist, 3 Postdocs and 9 PhD students.

The development of new acceptor materials for organic solar cells has led to a steady increase in device efficiencies, reaching more than 17% today. A remaining challenge is the relatively poor long-term stability of organic solar cells. The goal of your research will be to understand how the use of mixtures of acceptor molecules influences and improves the stability of organic solar cells. Major responsibilities
The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research, in collaboration with students and postdocs at Chalmers as well as other universities in Sweden and abroad. As a PhD student you are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in writing. In addition, 10 percent of your time will be dedicated to departmental duties, especially teaching on the undergraduate level.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent with a focus on physical chemistry (or be in the process of completing a Master’s degree). Experience with organic electronics is required and experience with organic solar cells is a merit. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills.

A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
