We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position at Chalmers University of Technology, focused on electronic packaging of quantum processors. At Chalmers we are at the forefront of quantum technology. We are part of the European Project OpenSuperQ+ that is a large collaboration between European universities and research institutes in quantum technology. In OpenSuperQ+ we are investigating how to package quantum processors as they grow to 100 qubits and beyond. The initial appointment is for two years, and the desired starting date is fall 2024.

Information about the division and the department
In the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, MC2, state-of-the art research in various fields such as micro-electronics, photonics, microwave techniques and quantum technology are being conducted. The department features a 1500 square meter clean room with all equipment needed for micro- and nanofabrication as well as many labs for characterization.

The Quantum Technology, QT, division is an experimental group working with developing several aspects of quantum technology. The division focuses on superconducting quantum phenomena and routinely fabricates high-quality qubits and novel qubit architectures. An important research topic is the scaling of quantum processor units, QPUs, to more qubits. In the context of this research, packaging of the quantum processors is becoming increasingly demanding and research on the packaging is also being conducted in QT.

Major responsibilities
In this role, you will:

- Actively contribute to the development of the next generation packaging and wiring of QPUs.

- Contribute to the goals in the European OpenSuperQ+ projects as well as aligned goals in the WACQT project.

- Work on multiplexing of qubit readout, design of suitable fan-out solutions for 100+ qubit QPUs and investigate suitable shielding solutions for scaling to large QPUs. These tasks will involve microwave and QPU design and characterizations as well as collaboration with the quantum processor design team in QT.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
To be qualified, you should:

-  Have a PhD in microwave engineering or physics with a focus on quantum technology or be in the process of completing your PhD degree. Since the research involves both understanding of microwave design and quantum technology, both backgrounds are eligible for applying, and the accepted candidate should be prepared to extend any lacking knowledge in the area they are missing.

. Have sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Meritourious:

- Good knowledge of cryogenics

- Good knowledge of micro- and nanofabrication

We are looking for a Research Associate to contribute to the development of next-generation battery management systems (BMS). The position is hosted by the Automatic Control group at the Division of Systems and Control, Department of Electrical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology.

About the research group

The Automatic Control group consists of approximately 35 researchers within the Division of Systems and Control, which has around 100 employees and is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Our research aims to enable a sustainable future, with projects focusing on energy efficiency through advanced control methods. We work in close collaboration with industry, research institutes, and other academic groups, often in interdisciplinary constellations.

Within the group, the Battery Management System (BMS) team is a national leader in battery research. Our work focuses on modelling, estimation, and control of lithium-ion batteries. The team has received multiple recognitions, including the Volvo Car Technology Award, placement on IVA’s 100 List, and best paper awards from IEEE VTS and PELS. We have published over 50 high-impact journal papers and hold several patents. Our international team values openness and collaboration.

Project description

Lithium-ion batteries are critical for electrified transportation and smart grid applications—two pillars of a sustainable energy future. Despite rapid advancements, batteries still pose challenges, such as thermal risks, ageing, low utilization, and slow charging.

This project aims to address these challenges by:


• Developing new data-driven and physics-based models for battery behaviour.
• Designing advanced BMS algorithms for real-time monitoring and control.
• Creating generalizable tools applicable to various battery types, geometries, and chemistries.

The scope of methods and applications will be tailored in collaboration with the selected candidate. The work will be supported by our extensive battery testing facilities, including equipment for commercial cells, half- and three-electrode measurements, and advanced materials analysis.

Information about the division and the department
An optical frequency comb is a laser source with evenly spaced, narrow frequency lines that maintain phase coherence across the spectrum. Microresonator frequency combs (microcombs) offer a chip-scale alternative to femtosecond mode-locked lasers, with advantages in frequency synthesis and metrology, from advanced communications to radio-frequency photonics.

Our group has demonstrated high-efficiency microcombs based on silicon nitride, with applications in coherent optical communications and nonlinear physics. We seek a postdoctoral fellow to explore new research avenues, including integration with active devices like microtransfer printing and hybrid techniques.

The Photonics Laboratory at the Microtechnology and Nanoscience Department (MC2) is a dynamic, international group of about 30 members. We conduct both fundamental and applied research in optoelectronics, nanophotonics, and fiber optic systems. Our state-of-the-art laboratory and in-house cleanroom facilities enable us to develop cutting-edge photonic devices.

Major responsibilities
As postdoctoral fellow, your main responsibilities are to lead and conduct research, and guide junior PhD students. You will have the freedom to contribute with your ideas, and collaborate with other senior researchers and professors.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop innovative solutions for measuring and controlling the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from building materials, focusing on improving durability and reusability. This role offers an opportunity to advance the state-of-the-art, contribute to environmental health, enhance building material safety, and promote circularity in the construction sector.

Project overview
VOCs are hazardous chemicals that negatively impact air quality and health. In recent years, our research has examined elevated VOC levels in the indoor environments of newly constructed schools and offices, highlighting the limited effects of increased ventilation. We have proposed practical, energy-efficient ventilation strategies. This project builds on that foundation, with a focus on developing semi-permeable emission barriers to control off-gassing, creating efficient measurement techniques for VOC emissions from building materials, and further developing the "ventilation threshold" indicator.

Research environment
You will join and conduct your research within the Building Physics Research Area at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. We are a positive, open-minded, and collaborative team dedicated to advancing building physics research methods. About us and the research project
The division of Supply & Operations Management (SOM) conducts research, education and outreach activities related to logistics, operations management, and industrial marketing and purchasing. All of these areas relate to the broader field of supply chain management. Our research is problem-oriented and empirical, with strong emphasis on industry and societal relevance. Sustainability needs , digitalization, information technology developments and automation are focused drivers and enablers in our work. Our goal is to perform high quality research and education at bachelor, master and doctoral levels. 

The postdoc is expected to conduct high-quality research in a collaborative manner. Conducting interviews, workshops, and collecting case study data, translating the case observations into analytical representations, writing and presenting high quality papers, and being involved in teaching activities. Additionally, you will engage with our local networks, such as Northern Lead and Chalmers Transport Area of Advance as well as various international networks.

We are looking for a Research Associate to contribute to the development of next-generation battery management systems (BMS). The position is hosted by the Automatic Control group at the Division of Systems and Control, Department of Electrical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology.

About the research group

The Automatic Control group consists of approximately 35 researchers within the Division of Systems and Control, which has around 100 employees and is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Our research aims to enable a sustainable future, with projects focusing on energy efficiency through advanced control methods. We work in close collaboration with industry, research institutes, and other academic groups, often in interdisciplinary constellations.

Within the group, the Battery Management System (BMS) team is a national leader in battery research. Our work focuses on modelling, estimation, and control of lithium-ion batteries. The team has received multiple recognitions, including the Volvo Car Technology Award, placement on IVA’s 100 List, and best paper awards from IEEE VTS and PELS. We have published over 50 high-impact journal papers and hold several patents. Our international team values openness and collaboration.

Project description

Lithium-ion batteries are critical for electrified transportation and smart grid applications—two pillars of a sustainable energy future. Despite rapid advancements, batteries still pose challenges, such as thermal risks, ageing, low utilization, and slow charging.

This project aims to address these challenges by:


• Developing new data-driven and physics-based models for battery behaviour.
• Designing advanced BMS algorithms for real-time monitoring and control.
• Creating generalizable tools applicable to various battery types, geometries, and chemistries.

The scope of methods and applications will be tailored in collaboration with the selected candidate. The work will be supported by our extensive battery testing facilities, including equipment for commercial cells, half- and three-electrode measurements, and advanced materials analysis.

Information about the division and the department
An optical frequency comb is a laser source with evenly spaced, narrow frequency lines that maintain phase coherence across the spectrum. Microresonator frequency combs (microcombs) offer a chip-scale alternative to femtosecond mode-locked lasers, with advantages in frequency synthesis and metrology, from advanced communications to radio-frequency photonics.

Our group has demonstrated high-efficiency microcombs based on silicon nitride, with applications in coherent optical communications and nonlinear physics. We seek a postdoctoral fellow to explore new research avenues, including integration with active devices like microtransfer printing and hybrid techniques.

The Photonics Laboratory at the Microtechnology and Nanoscience Department (MC2) is a dynamic, international group of about 30 members. We conduct both fundamental and applied research in optoelectronics, nanophotonics, and fiber optic systems. Our state-of-the-art laboratory and in-house cleanroom facilities enable us to develop cutting-edge photonic devices.

Major responsibilities
As postdoctoral fellow, your main responsibilities are to lead and conduct research, and guide junior PhD students. You will have the freedom to contribute with your ideas, and collaborate with other senior researchers and professors.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop innovative solutions for measuring and controlling the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from building materials, focusing on improving durability and reusability. Project overview
VOCs are hazardous chemicals that negatively impact air quality and health. In recent years, our research has examined elevated VOC levels in the indoor environments of newly constructed schools and offices, highlighting the limited effects of increased ventilation. We have proposed practical, energy-efficient ventilation strategies. This project builds on that foundation, with a focus on developing semi-permeable emission barriers to control off-gassing, creating efficient measurement techniques for VOC emissions from building materials, and further developing the "ventilation threshold" indicator.

Research environment
You will join and conduct your research within the Building Physics Research Area at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. We are a positive, open-minded, and collaborative team dedicated to advancing building physics research methods. Our goal is to develop resource-efficient buildings that offer excellent indoor environments and minimal environmental impact. Information about the project
This postdoc position focuses on manipulation of microparticles in liquids using optical forces and/or pothotothermally induced liquid flows and is based in our recent studies of metavehicles/metarotors and microbubble-induced Marangoni convection, respectively. Future applications are expected in the fields of microfluidics and microscopic robots (microbots) driven by light. The position involves experimental studies in advanced optics laboratories and finite element simulations in Comsol Multiphysics. It may also involve cleanroom work and sample fabrication. Specific formulation of research objectives will be decided in discussions with the successful applicant. You will work in a team of researchers with competences ranging from nano- and biophotonics to nanofabrication and theory. The Bionanophotonics group, lead by Professor Mikael Käll, has been engaged in advanced nanophotonics research since more than twenty years and is well-known for contributions to fields like plasmonics, surface-enhanced spectroscopy, optical manipulation, and metasurfaces.

The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
