The Universal Kraft group has been actively developing renewable energy solutions for over 20 years. Our projects span from wind and solar to waste-to-energy, water treatment, and energy storage solutions, including green Hydrogen and green Ammonia.
With offices in Canada, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, we are continuously expanding, along with our team. Currently, we are recruiting for a Nature Inventory Specialist / Naturinventerare to join our team and support the environmental assessment and permitting of our projects.
In this role, you will conduct field surveys, document habitats and species, and contribute to environmental reports and impact assessments. You will work closely with our technical and project management teams in Porto, Portugal, ensuring strong collaboration between environmental and project delivery aspects.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and carry out nature inventories and field surveys according to project needs.
Identify and document flora, fauna, and habitats, with particular attention to protected species and ecological values.
Collect, manage, and analyse environmental data for reports, permitting, and decision-making.
Advise project teams on ecological considerations and mitigation measures.
Collaborate with consultants, authorities, internal teams, and our technical and project management teams in Porto, Portugal to ensure compliance with Swedish environmental regulations.



QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Experience with field surveys, species identification, and habitat assessments.
Knowledge of Swedish environmental legislation, including species protection and habitat regulations.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and travelling to project sites.
Fluency in Swedish, with good spoken and written English.

Project description
This research aims to understand the effects of climate warming-driven changes in pollinator communities, the timing of flowering and their interaction on plant reproduction and plant community dynamics in the Swedish Arctic tundra. The study will use historical data, experiments and time-lapse camera images to investigate three specific objectives: 1) how the composition of pollinator communities has changed over the past three decades, 2) what consequences this change has for plant seed set, and 3) how changes in flowering time affect competition for pollinators and plant reproduction.

The PhD student will work at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences with Anne Bjorkman as main supervisor. There are also opportunities for collaboration with other researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Lund University, and Aarhus University. The project is linked to the strategic research area BECC (Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; http://www.becc.lu.se/) and the PhD student will be offered the opportunity to participate in the graduate school ClimBEco (http://www.cec.lu.se/climbeco-graduate-research-school/).

 
Duties   
The main task is to conduct the PhD thesis work under supervision, which includes development of the PhD student’s methodological experience, analytical skills, as well as theoretical depth and breadth. Techniques that will be used in the project include pollination experiments, mark-recapture of bees, analysis of time-lapse images of flowering time, quantitative ecology (e.g., hierarchical modeling) and possibly molecular methods. The studies will be conducted both in the field and at Natrium in Gothenburg. Fieldwork will mainly take place at Latnjajaure in northern Sweden. The project is linked to issues in pollination ecology, Arctic ecology, global environmental change, and phenology.

Doctoral studies comprises four years of full-time study, and leads to a doctoral degree.?   

As part of your employment as a doctoral student, you may have departmental duties corresponding to up to 20 % of full-time employment, distributed throughout your study period, and result in a corresponding extension of the studies. Departmental duties usually consist of teaching at first- and second-cycle levels, but may also include research and administration.

Subject area description 
The International Tundra Experiment, with its standardised warming treatments and protocols, has revealed that the tundra vegetation will grow taller, increase in biomass and shift composition. This change in vegetation composition and structure is bound to influence the ecosystem’s carbon balance, increasing productivity and respiration rates. A recent effort looking at ecosystem respiration using the TundraFlux database showed that a modest warming of air temperatures (1.4 °C) generated a 30% increase in ecosystem respiration (Maes et al., 2024). So far, the sequestration rates (carbon sink strength) have been overlooked in synthesis efforts, despite their critical role in shaping carbon dynamics. Especially data from long-term manipulation experiments, mimicking a future climate, have been less used when it comes to carbon balance, where soil moisture or shortage in soil water availability (heavily dependent on meltwater from winter snow) is overlooked as a driver for carbon processes.

This postdoc position, which is a combination of funding from the strategic research area BECC – Biodiversity and Ecosystem services under Climate Change and Hasselbladstiftelsen, will update and utilize the TundraFlux database as well as the extended ITEX database (ITEX+) and the Tundra Trait database to investigate warming and soil moisture effect on the Arctic carbon dynamics, including gross primary production. Additional data from remote sensing will be used to generate uniform environmental drivers of tundra carbon dynamics. This is a collaboration across departments at the University of Gothenburg, but also across universities and research groups within ITEX and the TundraFlux database contributors, with a strong link to Umeå University and KU Leuven, among others.

 

Duties 
This employment will combine aspects of biogeochemistry, Arctic carbon balance, climate change ecology, remote sensing and quantitative ecology to conduct multi-site syntheses of ecological and biogeochemical data, including:


• addressing novel questions related to how environmental change drives shifts in the biochemical cycles with a focus on the carbon balance in the warming Arctic and Alpine tundra ecosystems
• compilation, merging, management and manipulation of large, complex datasets - including correspondence with data collectors and collaborators
• using advanced quantitative methods (including meta-analysis) to analyse datasets in R (preferred) or another programming language; version control and code-sharing using GitHub
• writing scientific manuscripts to present the results of this research in a clear, impactful way

In addition to research, a postdoc can assist in teaching (up to a maximum of 20% of the time) if desired and teaching is needed at the department. Fieldwork is not anticipated for this position but may be possible if desired.

Projektbeskrivning
Som en del av det Svenska Pollennätverket spelar Pollenlabbet vid BioEnv en viktig roll i att övervaka och analysera pollenutbredningen över hela Sverige. Vi samlar in data från åtta mätstationer, från Malmö till Östersund, för att skapa pollenprognoser som hjälper allmänheten, särskilt personer med pollenallergier. Vårt arbete sträcker sig bortom prognoser: vi bidrar till övervakning av biologisk mångfald, spårar klimatförändringarnas effekter och identifierar invasiva arter, vilket speglar vårt engagemang för att ta itu med en bred rad miljöhälsorelaterade frågor.

 

Arbetsuppgifter 
Som laboratorietekniker kommer du att spela en avgörande roll i att upprätthålla vårt labs operativa effektivitet och utöka dess kapacitet. Med planerade förändringar i personalstyrkan för 2025 söker vi någon med starka tekniska färdigheter för att stödja vår forskning om pollen och svampsporer. Anställningen innefattar viktiga uppgifter såsom att förbereda objektglas för mikroskopi, hantera reagenser och samarbeta med övervakningsstationer. Tjänsten innefattar även att ge tekniskt stöd till studenter och forskare för de pågående forskningsprojekten i laboratoriet.

• Utveckla färdigheter i identifiering av svampsporer och pollenprognostisering.
• Lära dig tekniker för provberedning för flödescytometri.

 

Kvalifikationer 
Vi söker någon med kunskaper i biologi, minst motsvarande kärnkurserna i kandidatprogram i biologi, biomedicin eller ett närliggande vetenskapligt område.

Det är krav att du som söker har:


• Höga krav ställs på noggrannhet, ansvarskänsla och förmåga att arbeta självständigt.
• Laboratorieerfarenhet: Praktisk erfarenhet av mikroskopi och provberedning är nödvändig.

Projektbeskrivning
Forskargruppen EDGE lab (edge-ecology.com) söker ett forskningsbiträde för arbete inom olika projekt med fokus på växtekologi och globala miljöförändringar. Vår forskargrupp studerar hur globala miljöförändringar påverkar växt- och pollinatörssamhällen och hur förändringar i dessa samhällen i sin tur leder till förändringar på ekosystemnivå. Vi inriktar oss framför allt på arktiska och alpina ekosystem, i Sverige och andra delar av världen.

Vi är en stor, aktiv och trevlig forskargrupp. För närvarande är vi två forskningsledare, två forskningsingenjörer, tre postdoktorer, sex doktorander och fem masterstudenter. Vi ser nu fram emot att välkomna vår nästa gruppmedlem! Hos oss kommer du att få erfarenhet av många olika laboratorietekniker som används inom växtekologin och lära dig mer om planering och genomförande av växtekologiskt forskningsarbete. Det finns goda möjligheter till kompetensutveckling genom deltagande i gruppmöten, artikeldiskussioner, coding club och seminarier. Om du är intresserad av fältarbete så finns det möjlighet att under en kortare period delta i någon av våra fältkampanjer på sommaren.

 

Arbetsuppgifter 
Du kommer att arbeta med många olika uppgifter inom flera olika forskningsprojekt. Exempel på arbetsuppgifter som kan bli aktuella är att räkna frön, extrahera DNA, analysera mikroorganismer i jordprover, förbereda bladprover för analys av näringsinnehåll, så frön, plantera om och sköta växter, mäta olika egenskaper på växter i vår odlingsanläggning i Natrium, mata in och organisera data från fältarbete, organisera och packa fältutrustning för frakt till våra fältlokaler samt boka resor och ordna med annan logistik inför fältsäsongen m.m. För vissa av arbetsuppgifterna kan du behöva hjälpa till att ta reda på mer om vilken metod som är lämplig och hur den används för att sedan utveckla ett protokoll. Du kommer dels att arbeta i specifika projekt i nära samarbete med den doktorand som driver projektet och dels med mer generella arbetsuppgifter som hjälper gruppen som helhet. I perioder kommer du att självständigt få ta hand om vissa ansvarsområden inom pågående projekt, till exempel när den som ansvarar för projektet inte är på plats.

About the Role
As a Biologist, you will be part of our Swedish project development team, working closely with County Administrative Boards and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with biodiversity, water, and habitat protection regulations. You will also collaborate with our technical team in Portugal on feasibility studies, site planning, and environmental impact assessments.


Key Responsibilities:
Conduct field inspections and land inventories for solar park projects, using both digital tools and site visits.
Perform Nature Value Inventories (NVI) in accordance with Swedish environmental standards.
Identify and document plant and animal species in project areas, assessing potential impacts.
Assess biotopes, environmental risks, and mitigation strategies for project sites.
Assist in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), including biodiversity protection planning and habitat conservation strategies.
Conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to evaluate the long-term sustainability of solar parks.
Provide GIS mapping and land analysis to support feasibility studies and permit applications.
Prepare documentation for environmental authorisation processes and regulatory approvals.
Support project activities through administrative tasks, including report preparation and stakeholder communication.



Requirements:
Academic background in biology, ecology, or environmental sciences.
Strong understanding of Swedish environmental regulations related to solar energy and biodiversity conservation.
Fluent in Swedish and English (spoken and written).
Ability to work independently while contributing to multifunctional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and report writing.
Valid driving licence.
Experience with GIS and digital mapping software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) is an advantage.
Knowledge of environmental permitting processes in Sweden is desirable.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage with government agencies and stakeholders.
Proactive and comfortable working with scheduling and digital meetings.

With offices in Canada, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, we are continuously expanding, along with our team. Currently, we are recruiting for a Technical Project Manager / Teknisk projektledare.


As Technical Project Manager / Teknisk projektledare you will be involved in the full cycle of renewable energy projects in Sweden – primarily solar parks and battery energy storage systems (BESS). You will work closely with our Swedish team as well as our technical hub in Portugal, which supports with feasibility and implementation studies, technical design, simulations, and construction.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the technical development and construction phases of solar parks and BESS projects.
Participate in project design and support with technical tasks such as grid connections.
Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure progress and quality.
Maintain documentation and reporting on ongoing and planned activities.



QUALIFICATIONS
Engineering education (electrical, energy, or similar) or equivalent industry experience.
Strong technical understanding of renewable energy systems; electrical knowledge or certification is an advantage.
Experience working in multifunctional teams and coordinating with external stakeholders.
Fluency in Swedish, with good spoken and written English.

With offices in Canada, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, we are continuously expanding, along with our team. Currently, we are recruiting for an Assistant Biologist. The position is seasonal employment from May to September.
About the Role
As an Assistant Biologist, you will be part of our Swedish project development team, working closely with County Administrative Boards and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with biodiversity, water, and habitat protection regulations. You will also collaborate with our technical team in Portugal on feasibility studies, site planning, and environmental impact assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct field inspections and land inventories for solar park projects, using both digital tools and site visits.
Perform Nature Value Inventories (NVI) in accordance with Swedish environmental standards.
Identify and document plant and animal species in project areas, assessing potential impacts.
Assess biotopes, environmental risks, and mitigation strategies for project sites.
Assist in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), including biodiversity protection planning and habitat conservation strategies.
Conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to evaluate the long-term sustainability of solar parks.
Provide GIS mapping and land analysis to support feasibility studies and permit applications.
Prepare documentation for environmental authorisation processes and regulatory approvals.
Support project activities through administrative tasks, including report preparation and stakeholder communication.

Requirements
Academic background in biology, ecology, or environmental sciences.
Strong understanding of Swedish environmental regulations related to solar energy and biodiversity conservation.
Fluent in Swedish and English (spoken and written).
Ability to work independently while contributing to multifunctional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and report writing.
Valid driving licence.
Experience with GIS and digital mapping software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) is an advantage.
Knowledge of environmental permitting processes in Sweden is desirable.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage with government agencies and stakeholders.
Proactive and comfortable working with scheduling and digital meetings.
